City break: The Hague

02 January 2021

This city breathes culture, art and history.

Moreover, you can feel that the sea isn't far away! The Hague always has a fresh breeze and you can hear the seagulls in the distance. This city also allows you to spread your own wings. How? Read on!

Art for Your Bucket List

No art lover should miss the Mauritshuis. Walking past it without noticing it is nearly impossible, too, because the museum with paintings from the Golden Age is located in the previous city palace. Once you are inside, you can admire various famous works of art and look the Girl with the Pearl in the eye.

Lounging on the Lange Lindelaan

Welcome to Lange Voorhout, one of the most beautiful lanes in the Netherlands! Around you, you'll find stately buildings, beautiful trees and an oasis of peace. Whether you come here in September or in the middle of the winter: this street is beautiful during every season! You will also find the famous Escher Museum here in the Palace, which used to be the estate of our royal family.

Seeking the Oranges

The Hague isn't called the Hofstad (Court City) for nothing. Everywhere you go you can find royal buildings, historical monuments, and palace gardens to take your breath away. An online walking route will ensure you don't miss any of these hidden pearls. The royal highlights during this walking tour are Paleis Noordeinde, the Royal Stables and the Palace Garden.

Seize the Day!

Want to connect with nature? Then visit this bit of land at the edge of the city, where you can pick seasonal fruits and vegetables while the farm animals come to sniff around you. A really fun place for kids, but also for parents, this place offers a lovely afternoon out in nature. Don't want to pick anything, but feel like some lunch? You can have a nice meal at the lunch room.

Miniatures and Attractions

Almost everyone knows of it, but have you been there yet? Madurodam is one of the real classics if you're looking for a nice city activity. Take a stroll through our small country and learn all about the Dutch pride in an interactive way. For example, you can see how things go in the port of Rotterdam and produce beats like the world-famous DJ Armin van Buuren.
