Red, yellow, blue: it may seem simple, but Mondriaan knew better than anyone how to work magic with these colours. In the Mondriaan House you will discover how he grew from his early landscapes to the iconic abstract art we all know today. You will literally step into his world, because his Paris studio has been recreated in the museum.
The Mondriaan House museum displays (a selection of) nine naturalistic works from the early period (1899-1908) of the Amersfoort artist. Although you are used to his use of colour, in this museum you will mainly come across his landscape portraits. Definitely worth a visit!
Mondriaan is all about balance: between colour and form, between chaos and order.
Mondriaan began his career as a realist painter, but was inspired by jazz, cities and modernity to develop his famous style. He experimented and broke with tradition. Contemporary artists are still inspired by him, and that is reflected in changing exhibitions.
