Amsterdam in the spotlight
06 December 2016
A bridge in all colours of the rainbow, hundreds of lit up flower bulbs that float in the canals and a veil made of thousands of LED lights that dances in the wind. These works of art can all be seen during the Amsterdam Light Festival. From 2 December 2016 to 22 January 2017, Amsterdam’s canals and city centre are in the spotlight.
International lighting artists, architects and designers are showing their works of art – using the Dutch capital city as a stage. Admire more than 35 beautiful light objects from a canal tour boat or take a walk along the canals.
The smell of hot mulled wine will enter your nose as soon as you step onto the jetty towards the boats. The 75-minute boat tour will give you a different view of the city. The boat will take you across the IJ river toward the Maritime Museum – and make sure to take a look at the blueprint that is projected on the building. View the route here!
Discover the Illuminade walking route and walk through the cultural Weesper and Plantage neighbourhood. The Illuminade starts on 15 December and the works of art can be seen on foot until 8 January 2017. This year’s theme of the route is Biomimicry, inspired by nature. Check out the route and more information about the works of art here!
