In 2026, Pentecost will be celebrated on 23, 24 and 25 May, making it a busy but well‑organised long weekend filled with festivals, cultural events and outdoor activities across the city.
22–25 May | Free entry | Great for: solo travellers & groups of friends
Lepeltje Lepeltje is one of Amsterdam’s best‑known food festivals. From 22 to 25 May, the festival takes over the NDSM Wharf in Amsterdam‑Noord with dozens of food trucks, live music, DJs and a small creative market. You wander around, eat whatever you feel like and usually end up staying longer than planned. The industrial setting of the NDSM Wharf makes it even better: lots of space, views over the IJ and plenty of room to move around between bites and beats.
Getting there:
The ferry from Amsterdam Central Station runs frequently and is free!
Sunday 24 May | Tuinen van West | Great for: couples & groups of friends
On Pentecost Sunday, De Zon Festival takes place in the Tuinen van West, just outside the city centre. This electronic music festival is known for its relaxed atmosphere, multiple stages and lots of outdoor space. You can dance, sit back in the grass or switch between the two. The location makes it feel like a short escape from the city, while still being easy to reach.
Getting there:
The festival site is easy to reach by public transport, and cycling is also a good option.
Monday 25 May | Great for: couples & travellers looking for something quieter
On Pentecost Monday, Castle Day invites you to explore castles and historic estates around Amsterdam. A perfect option if you want to escape the city crowds for a day without travelling far.
Getting there: most locations can be reached by train or bus from Amsterdam Central Station, which is 15–25 minutes away from our hostels.
Sunday 24 May | Great for: active travellers & locals
The Indische Buurt Run is a running and walking event through Amsterdam‑East. It’s not about speed, but about discovering a neighbourhood in a different way.
Getting there:
Not in the mood for a festival? The H’ART Museum along the Amstel is open during Pentecost and easy to reach from the city centre. Or go for a classic canal cruise, especially nice earlier in the day, when it’s a bit quieter on the water.
The Noordermarkt in the Jordaan is a good spot for a relaxed morning, with organic produce, vintage finds and local stalls. Keep in mind that the city centre, especially around the canals, can be busy. On public holidays, street parking usually follows Sunday rates, but public transport and cycling are by far the easiest ways to get around.
