7 tips to enjoy spring

21 March 2017

Let’s ignore the fact that the weather in March and April changes a lot, and start looking forward to spring!

Go outside and enjoy the first signs of the sun. We've made a list of the most fun activities so you can start celebrating spring.

1. Time for tulips

From mid-March to Mid-May, the Netherlands changes into a sea of flowers. Visit the gorgeous bulb fields or visit the Keukenhof. The largest bulb fields are behind the North Sea dunes, where you can also go hiking or cycling. Our hostels in Noordwijk and Haarlem are an ideal base to admire the tulips.

2. Visit small markets

Would you like to walk around and search for knickknacks and gadgets? Visit one of our flea markets! For those of us who are art lovers, the TEFAF Maastricht (in Dutch) is definitely a good choice. The TEFAF is the leading art and antique fair of the world. Complete your cultural day by staying the night at the centrally located Stayokay Maastricht.

3. Lamb days

Lambs are part of spring in the Netherlands. What could possibly be more fun than watching lambs jumping and running through a field? A lot of shepherds offer the possibility for visitors to come and watch the lambs in spring. For example, you can participate in lambs day at the Loenermark (in Dutch) in Arnhem and run around with the little lambs. Complete your weekend by staying at Stayokay Arnhem. This hostel is close to the Hoge Veluwe National Park and still only a stone’s throw away from the city centre.

4. The great outdoors

The days are becoming longer, the sun is starting to shine and the birds are starting to sing. So plenty of reasons to go outside and enjoy spring! Feel the fresh air between your toes and walk along the Bare Foot path at the Lievensberg estate in Bergen op Zoom.

5. Discover the Frisian Lakes

In anticipation of spring, the sailing season has also started. Heeg is therefore the best spot to get some fresh air. Go ‘skûtsjesilen’ (‘sailing’ in Frisian) and discover the most beautiful spots in Friesland’s abundant water region.

6. Enjoying the terraces

The umbrellas have come out and the terraces are full of the first sun-worshippers. The beach can perhaps still be a little cold, but a good spot in the sun definitely makes up for that. Are you looking for a nice spot to catch the first rays of sunshine? We would recommend a beach club for sun, sea and entertainment. It is a lot of fun and something different! Stay over at one of our coastal Stayokay hostels after your visit to the terrace.

7. Easter holiday

It is spring, and that means the Easter holiday is coming up! It is almost time for an Easter egg hunt, a big brunch and a visit from the Easter bunny. You can spend your day inside, but you can also go outside. Go on an Easter egg hunt in the Amsterdam Forest (in Dutch) or have a delicious Easter brunch on the Pancake Boat. Complete your Easter weekend by staying at one of our locations in Amsterdam.
