Sitting Back on Old Shipyard

The NDSM grounds are one of the trendiest spots in Amsterdam. The rusty sheds on this former shipyard are brimming with creativity.

From cosy diners with a great view of the IJ river to flea markets and festivals. And all in an industrial setting.

“Between the rusty shipyard sheds and the bare concrete, it’s brimming with trendy businesses and creativity.”

To get to the NDSM shipyard, you can take the free ferry 906 from the Central Train Station. Then walk straight towards the crane and you’ll get to Pllek, one of the best hang-outs at the shipyard and by the water. A great place to relax in the sand and enjoy the view of the IJ river. But also: get a bite to eat, dance to live music, watch movies in the summer, take yoga lessons, view art and much more. Here, the idea is mainly to inspire and stimulate.

Hey, did you know?

Bargain hunters and vintage lovers can make their way past hundreds of stalls in the IJ halls twice a month; one of the largest flea markets in Europe. You can buy all kinds of things there: from clothes and jewellery to kitchen utensils and antiques.
