Live the farming life

Did you know that as many sheep as people live on Texel? Hardly surprising since the island is well known as the birthplace of sheep breeding.

At Schaapboerderij Texel you can come and cuddle lambs in springtime and do lots of other farm-based things.

Have a glimpse behind the scenes of life as a Texel sheep farmer

At Schapenboerderij Texel, you get a glimpse behind the scenes of life as a Texel sheep farmer. The farmer and his wife will show you how to herd sheep with a dog and in the farm shop you’ll find out all the things that are done with wool. It isn’t all about the 25 breeds of sheep that walk around here, by the way; you can also ride a pony, stroke the dwarf goats, have your picture taken with the tractor, roll around in the hay and picnic in the grounds.

Hey, did you know?

Each July the Day of the Texel Sheep is held. You can watch various demonstrations of sheep-shearing, wool-spinning sheep milking etc. next to the Hoorner church in Den Hoorn. You can also come and marvel at the different breeds and buy all kinds of sheep-related products.
