Food with an island flair

De Zee Restaurant is a place you keep going back to. For many Terschelling fans it’s their favourite restaurant on the island, and not without good reason. The dishes, the relaxed atmosphere and the friendly servers are all strong points here.

“What will it be: fresh sea bass, Terschelling lamb or a pizza from the wood-fired oven?”

When you stand at the end of Torenstraat with your back to the Brandaris lighthouse, you’ll see De Zee along the street to your left. The kitchen uses a wood-fired oven to prepare Mediterranean dishes such as fresh sea bass and Terschelling lamb with an island flair. While you’re waiting for your meal, you can gaze around at the old maps and a bar made from driftwood. It’s a good idea to book, because De Zee is very popular.

Nice to know!

Not far from De Zee stands de Brandaris, the oldest lighthouse in the Netherlands. The first lighthouse was built in 1323 to mark the narrow shipping straits between Vlieland and Terschelling. The current tower dates back to 1594. You’re not allowed up because the Brandaris is still in operation, shining out over the whole North Holland coast.
