Cruising in a canoe

The best way of exploring the Oudegracht canal is by canoe, gliding smoothly and silently over the Utrecht waterways. A nice way to discover the areas outside Utrecht, including Fort Rhijnauwen or Amelisweerd is in a rented motor boat.

“Paddle your canoe through an upcoming district around the Vaartse Rijn. A lot of locals come out to relax on their jetties in the summer.”

If you plan on staying within the city boundaries, you have to paddle to the Vaartse Rijn. The area surrounding this waterway is on the rise, with more and more trendy companies opening there. Consequently, the waterside is also getting busier and the jetties are the ideal places to relax in summer. A night-time tour is also a memorable experience. De Rijnstroom boar hire organises full-moon cruises. Of course, you’ll be stopping at one of the bars along the canal.

Nice to know!

If you prefer the idea of an organised canal cruise of Utrecht, step aboard with Rederij Schuttevaer. A guide will tell you about the city’s past and present. Cruises depart every hour between 11am and 5pm from Oudegracht 85.
