Drinks at ’t Bassin

If you think you’ve discovered all there is to discover in Maastricht, think again. Because what you certainly shouldn’t miss is the historic inland harbour ‘t Bassin in the Sphinxkwartier.

Here, you can find cafés, restaurants with patios on the dock and galleries in the wharf cellars of the former warehouses.

Around ’t Bassin, everything breathes history. For instance, the harbour is surrounded by the monumental earthenware factory of Sphinx. Until the beginning of this century these were still in use, but they’ve now gotten new functions. From one of the many patios on the dock, such as the one of Gastrobar Dock Five, you have a beautiful view of the authentic sluices. Here, boats sail into the harbour from the Maas river or the Zuid-Willemsvaart river. Want to get on the water yourself? At Maastrichtsloep, you can rent a sloop.

Hey, did you know?

One of the buildings that received a new function is De Timmerfabriek. The former factory is now the stage for pop music, movies and exhibitions. For instance, you can find Filmhuis Lumière here, where you can watch arthouse movies. The factory also has a patio on the water.
