Spring tips for Amsterdam

Only a little while longer and we will be able to enjoy a radiant spring: one of the most fun and most beautiful seasons in the Netherlands.

On top of the Keukenhof and tulip fields, there are also numerous festivals and events. We've created an overview of activities that take place in Amsterdam this spring, which you can find below.

24H West

This spring, Amsterdam West is in the spotlight in the weekend of 12 and 13 March. People of all ages will be able to enjoy themselves in the various theatres, clubs, museums and shops that open their doors for the public during this event. The event truly has something for everyone – whether you are a lover of craftwork, a culture freak or a night owl, 24H West has it all.

Cirque du Soleil

For the theatre lovers among you, the world-famous theatre spectacle Cirque du Soleil is in town with their successful show Amaluna from 17 March to 1 May 2016. Be amazed by the impressive costumes, fantastic circus acrobatics and the enchanting story!

Roze Filmdagen

From 10 to 20 March, Amsterdam looks through pink glasses for eleven days during the Roze Filmdagen (‘Pink Film Days’), located at the Wetergasfabriek Cultuurpark. Films, documentaries and short films discuss as many good aspects of LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer) films as possible. The programming is diverse: from romantic comedies to impressive documentaries that provide food for thought.

DGTL

If you are a true festival lover and a fan of raw beats, you should definitely go to this festival. During Easter weekend, 26 and 27 March, DGTL opens the outdoor festival season at the NDSM-werf, a former shipyard in Amsterdam-Noord. The complete line-up is already available and this year, DGTL has set the bar high for the rest of the dance season once again.

Pippin

Have you always wanted to see a real Broadway production? From 9 March to 10 April, the international musical Pippin – with completely English-speaking cast – can be seen in Theatre Carré in Amsterdam. The Tony Award-winning musical tells the story of Prince Pippin, son of Charlemagne. The story follows his turbulent search for himself, the meaning of life and the extraordinary.

King’s Day

On 27 April, the streets are coloured in orange, and massive amounts of people in the Netherlands go out to celebrate King Willem-Alexander’s birthday. There activities throughout the entire country from large festivals to cultural events and flea markets. The largest party takes place in Amsterdam, where both the canals and the streets are coloured in orange. It is the largest holiday of the year, so do not miss out!.
