Let's go Local: Arnhem

05 November 2019

For the nicest restaurants, coolest shops and most beautiful places in their city, we asked a few Arnhemmers for the best places to be in Arnhem.

Park Sonsbeek

An oasis in the city. When you arrive at Park Sonsbeek, your mouth almost falls open: it's just so beautiful! So it's obviously a popular location for events and festivals. But even if there are none, there's plenty to do. There are great water features with a real waterfall, impressive height differences, a deer park and a wide choice of restaurants. In the park you get a piece of the Veluwe in the city.

Studio Konijnenvoer

After first being at seven different pop-up locations, Studio Konijnenvoer has found a permanent home. Whether you're in the mood for good coffee, have a nice lunch, hang out at the bar, drink cocktails or are just looking for free wifi: this is the place to be! The name of the concept refers to the completely plant-based menu, which will still make even the largest carnivore's mouth water.

MeeM

Fancy a tasty burger? Opposite the central station you'll find MeeM Food and Drink. Here you can have a relaxed meal after shopping, a pre-cinema bite or a top-up before diving into Arnhem's nightlife. In addition to burgers that you manage to resist, there are hot dogs and dishes from the charcoal oven on the menu. Of course, the youngest and veg-only guests haven't been forgotten either.

Froufrou’s

Walking from the centre to the fashion quarter you'll come across Froufrou's. Here you can not only shop for new items - but maybe even more fun - also the coolest vintage clothing, accessories, cameras and vintage interior items, like an old-fashioned coffee grinder or typewriter. This is the store for people with a unique taste.

De Waalse Pijl

Looking for something special? Then be sure to stop by bicycle shop De Waalse Pijl. The passionate owner sells vintage racing bikes, which he repairs and restores himself. Its purpose? Bringing these classics back into the street scene. During your weekend away you can rent a great - super photogenic - tandem from him. Picnic basket included, if you like.

’t Taphuys

A lover of beer or wine? Then a visit to 't Taphuys should not be missed when you're in Arnhem. Here you'll find a hundred different types of beer and eighty types of wine. And the nice thing is that you can pour your beer or wine from the tap walls in the middle of the restaurant, paying per centiliter. Smart! This way you can first taste the wine and fill your glass if you like it.

Bonnie

Looking for a nice coffee or lunch spot? If you are in Arnhem, visit the popular hotspot Bonnie. Everything Bonnie makes is vegan: from her delicious cake to the fish-without-fish bagel, and from her delicious acai bowl to the matchalatte. When the weather is nice you can sit outside on the cozy terrace and when it is a bit colder, it is also very nice to be inside. Recommended!

Museum Arnhem

Despite the fact that the museum is closed for renovations, you can happily enjoy the art of Museum Arnhem until the end of 2020. At the temporary location De Kerk, various exhibitions and activities are organized around the themes: current art and design, innovation, Arnhem makers and design and fashion. Because the focus is on experiment, renewal and innovation, there is a lot to experience for everyone - young and old. There are also regular concerts and performances in the church.

Lost in Wanderland

Want to shop? Then go to the lifestyle and concept store Lost in Wanderland when you are in Arnhem. Here you can wander for hours and amaze your eyes: so many fun unique products with a story. The store has something for everyone: whether you prefer to shop for your house, your children or you yourself. Even if you are looking for a unique gift or item from a small label or Dutch designer, you've come to the right place
