Climbing in Kralingen

A popular place to get away from the hustle and bustle is the Kralingse Bos. There’s all sorts to do. Children can have great fun around the lake, where you’ll find lots of playgrounds and tracts of grass. There also a pancake house in the forest.

“The Kralingse Bos is an urban nature park where you can escape the hustle and bustle of the city.”

You might think it unlikely but the Kralingse Bos and Lake are right in the heart of Rotterdam. They were created during the 1920s and 1930s but the war slowed planting programme down. It was only in 1953 that the recreation area opened. Ever since, it has been a favourite spot for Rotterdammers to exercise or relax. The Klimpark Fun Forest is great fun for the over eights, while the smaller kids can go to the deer park. Round the day off with delicious pancakes at De Nachtegaal.

Hey, did you know?

At the edge of Lake Kralingen, stand the two oldest working snuff and spice mills in the Netherlands: De Ster and De Lelie. The windmills operate every second Saturday of the month.
