Colourful confectioner’s

At De Taart Van M’n Tante, you can eat what are probably Amsterdam’s most extraordinary cakes in a somewhat hysterically kitsch and very Barbie-like interior. From Blushing Annemarie and Monkey Business to a naughty Chocolate Slut Pie.

“Like the cakes, the interior is a festival of colour. You feel like you’ve walked into Pippi Longstocking’s house.”

If you are a dedicated Great British Bake-off fan, then a visit to De Taart van M’n Tante (my aunt’s cake) is an absolute must. In this confectioner’s, co-owned by Dutch celebrity baker Siemon de Jong, they bake exceedingly creative cakes. The favourite by far is the almond-sponge and almond cookies liqueur-filled Swedish Princess Cake. Besides the cake, the interior is also a colourful treat. It’s like being in Pippi Longstocking’s house.

Nice to know

The number 16 and 24 trams stop right outside. If you carry on to the next stop, you can step off at the famous Albert Cuypmarkt.
