Official opening of flagship hostel in Utrecht

10 October 2016

What a great opening! Last week, the 24th Stayokay hostel in Utrecht was officially opened 🎉

The mayor, Jan van Zanen, and Stayokay director Marijke Schreiner put the hostel on a life-sized Monopoly board on the Neude Utrecht.

On 5 October, the official opening took place for guests from the local scene in Utrecht: business owners, Stayokay partners and the press. Comedian Jeffrey Spalburg kicked off with a spectacular act, and performed his song ‘Als ik boven op de Dom sta’ (‘When I’m standing on top of Dom Tower’) together with the guests. All guests were taken on a tour through the brand-new hostel while enjoying a drink and bite. During the hostel tour that took them past different rooms, they were surprised by actors who played the part of different groups of Stayokay guests. This generated some laughs. There were also other amazing activities, such as a large bed on which your picture could be taken.

On Friday 7 October, Dutch as well as foreign bloggers and vloggers stayed at the flagship hostel at the Neude. After the fantastic kick-off, there was an elaborate day programme and the bloggers and vloggers were able to discover Utrecht by bike. At night, everyone in Utrecht was welcome to have a drink in the famous bar called ‘The 5th’ on the first floor of the hostel. The Utrecht band The Brahms took care of some wonderful sound.
