Welcome to Stayokay
Stayokay is a chain of thirty hostels located in the most beautiful parts of the Netherlands. Stayokay is also the market leader in the Dutch group and budget accommodation sector. We aim to play a leading role in the field of budget accommodation and catering. We put our guests first and place a high priority on corporate social responsibility.
What is a hostel?
Hostels have been built in many different types of building and all offer a wide variety of rooms. Guests sleep in bunk beds or double beds, in two, four or six-person rooms or dormitories. Most rooms have their own washing facilities. Bed linen is supplied to guests on arrival, but it is expected that guests bring their own towels. Breakfast is always included in the price of a night's accommodation. Every hostel has a friendly bar, terrace and onsite restaurant. Breakfast buffets are served every morning and guests receive daytime lunch packs. Dinner consists of a three-course meal and special diets can be catered for on request, e.g. vegetarian. A characteristic of all our hostels is the cosy atmosphere and the Stayokay employees’ warm hospitality!
Ideal Starting Point
Stayokay hostels are located in some of the most beautiful areas of the Netherlands and therefore form the ideal starting point for countless activities. They are ideal for exploring the Dutch countryside or for soaking up art and culture in town. Every hostel has specific activities in keeping with its character and location. Hostels are also ideally suited for an active day out, as nearly all hostels have sports facilities available. Personal wishes can always be discussed, whether it be a survival adventure, a day's sailing or scooter rental.
Stayokay Guests
Stayokay provides overnight accommodation to families, individuals and groups, as well as daytime meeting, workshop, wedding and company party facilities.

Stayokay Destinations
Countryside
Many Stayokay hostels are situated close to woodlands and unique recreational and natural areas such as the Veluwe, the Sallandse Heuvelruggen or the De Biesbosch wetland nature reserve. Explore the countryside by foot, by bicycle or mountain bike, on rollerblades or by canoe. You will be amazed at the splendour of the countryside!
City
Dutch cities and towns offer countless sightseeing options. Visit the Van Gogh Museum, admire Rembrandt's Night Watch or stroll along Amsterdam's canals. And how about a trip to the historic city of Haarlem? Or combine art and culture, shopping and beach in The Hague. Rotterdam is worth a visit for anyone interested in modern architecture, museums and nightlife! Or discover the bon vivant lifestyle of Maastricht located at the southernmost tip of the Netherlands. Hostels are generally situated in city centres. So get out and about and enjoy the Netherlands' art treasures!
Coast and Water
West Frisian Islands. Of course, Stayokay hostels are also located on each of the three West Frisian Islands of Ameland, Terschelling and Texel. Just getting there by boat is an adventure in itself. You will be in the holiday spirit even before you get there! Guests can explore the islands, wander through picturesque villages and varied countryside, walk across mud flats or take boat trips in search of seals. The West Frisian Islands are always full of surprises!
North Sea Coast. There are seven Stayokay hostels along the North Sea coast. Guests can cycle or hike through meadows and tulip fields and through wonderful sand dunes. A wonderfully refreshing breeze can be experienced on the coast and countless activities can be organized on the beach.
Frisian Lakes. So nearby, yet a world apart… Friesland! This Dutch province is justifiably one of the Netherlands' favourite holiday destinations. Farms, meadows and windmills are scattered between Friesland's patchwork of lakes and woodlands. Guests can cycle or sail from village to village. Kids can learn to sail in small boats under the supervision of experienced sailing instructors. Friesland truly has something for everyone!
Corporate
Since 1929
Stayokay was founded in 1929 as the Nederlandse Jeugdherberg Centrale (NJHC) [Dutch Youth Hostel Association]. In 2003, NJHC was renamed Stayokay. The first NJHC hostel was located in Ouderkerk aan de Amstel in a converted windmill. The NJHC grew rapidly becoming a large organization with almost seventy small buildings throughout the country. Renamed Stayokay, the present-day association now has thirty hostels in the Netherlands. Twenty-six of the thirty hostels are run by Stayokay itself and the remaining four are franchised. Hostels generate turnover to reinvest in their quality, infrastructure and employees.
Renovation and Construction
Stayokay keeps on renewing itself! New hostels are being opened and existing hostels are being renovated. In 2006, Stayokay Domburg and Heemskerk – both founded in old castles – were fully renovated. In the same year, Stayokay Texel built new accommodation 6 km from the beach. In 2007, it was Stayokay Noordwijk's turn for renovation. Groups are already experiencing all the sporting fun to be had at this location. 2007 also saw the opening of three new hostels. Stayokay Maastricht was opened in a newly constructed building on the banks of the River Maas and in Amsterdam Zeeburg, a former school building dating from 1900 was converted into a modern hostel. In 2008, Stayokay Sneek saw its first sailing season in its brand new building. The crowning glory will be the new Stayokay Rotterdam opening in early 2009 in the famous Cube Houses in the old Rotterdam harbour.
New Hostels, New Interiors
Stayokay is busy building for the future with its new and newly renovated hostels. This is why we decided to incorporate a new interior design. Design Studio Edward van Vliet/SEVV developed a high-quality interior design concept that is modern and above all, warm and hospitable.
Colourful tables and matching lighting can be found in the restaurants, and guests can relax in the lobbies at large wooden tables or lounge in armchairs with footstools. Bedrooms have been decorated in cosy, warm, natural hues and unusual materials. Flexible design allows bunk beds to be rebuilt into single or double beds and room layouts and beds can be adapted to guest requirements on request.
The newest hostels on Texel, in Maastricht, Noordwijk, Amsterdam Zeeburg and Sneek incorporate this new interior design. In early 2009, Stayokay will be opening a modern hostel in the famous Cube Houses in Rotterdam that will also be decorated according to the new interior design. More hostels will be coming soon… and Stayokay will keep you up-to-date with the latest developments.
Sustainable Recreation
Stayokay respects the environment and society. This is why Stayokay runs its business in an environmentally friendly fashion. All waste is segregated, power is green, printed materials are recyclable and the coffee is fair trade. These measures help all thirty Stayokay hostels meet the requirements of the European Eco-label. This is the number-one label for environmentally friendly products and services. We ask our guests to contribute by switching of lights and turning off the heating whenever they leave their rooms. Stayokay also provides environmentally friendly packages and educational programmes for the educational sector.
Corporate Social Responsibility
Stayokay aims to play a leading role in the field of accommodation and catering, but it also aims to contribute to society on an ongoing basis with full conviction.
This is why Stayokay organized its first Stayokay World Weekend in 2007. In partnership with Humanitas and the Dutch Red Cross, two hundred families that had become socially isolated, or were in financial difficulties, were invited for a fully catered weekend break. Stayokay aims to organize World Weekends every year from now on.
Stayokay is also a partner of the Doe Een Wens Stichting [Make A Wish Foundation] that fulfils the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses.
